I am young, I live in downtown Toronto, and I make photographs. With a camera, I consumated my love of looking. I want to see and I want to show. For the past year and a half I have been making photographs in the streets of Toronto on a daily basis. I don't have a job, photos are mostly what I do, and I'm in love with it.
Philipp Günther is a German photographer who started his photographic work in the early 2000. Having worked with several different photography genres, he eventually discovered his passion for documentary photography and documentary portraits in particualar.
He realises his philosophy of "communicative portraits" by using a wide-angle lens at a short distance and establishing a rapport with the people he photographs. His portraits show a great deal of emotion, tell stories and ask questions at the same time.
This selection of photos was taken in 2001/2002 in Sao Paulo, Central and North-East Brazil.
Urban colours is a project that I started by accident. I was taking lots of photographs of urban people in the vicinity of Brick Lane in London, but after some time, I wanted to capture urban sings and posters, so I moved on to other colourful places such as Soho and Convent Garden.I want to continue this project and believe there is not enough film to capture everything!
I use a Canon EOS 3 with a 28-105mm lens and a 6x6 medium format camera. All these pictures were taken on Provia 100ISO and Kodak 100VS film
Anyone who believes that on his arrival in India, he'll immediately find the truth, discover the inner self or the golden means, couldn't be more wrong. The first impression is rather unpleasant: heat, irritating heat, I was praying that I could get used to it quickly.
Instead of discovering new culture, one locks himself in a hotel room and walks constantly from the shower to the fan and back again. And what's outside anyway? Dirt, dusty sticky air, and holy cows roaming the streets. But it only seems to be that way. It's a difficult & uncomfortable test, everyone who's more or less serious about his trip has to take.
India is like a mistrustful woman veiled under many layers of her sari: she surprises you with the colours, and tempts with the secret hidden inside. Seemingly trivial, yet fascinating.
Pictures taken during a 3-month trip in the North of India. Delhi, Varansi, Rishikesh, Haridwar, Kolkata, Darjeeling, Kashmir.
